Get Checked! is the lung cancer awareness campaign run by Lung Cancer Europe. We are a non-profit organisation based in Switzerland, committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in line with European and Swiss data protection laws.

Information you provide when volunteering or submitting your story, including details about your experience of lung cancer symptoms, diagnosis, or primary care

When you submit a story or volunteer form, you may choose to share health-related information, including details about a diagnosis or medical experience. This is special category data under GDPR Article 9. We collect it only with your explicit consent, which you provide through the form, and use it solely for the purposes of the Get Checked campaign as described in this policy.
4. How we collect data
Directly: When you fill in a form, sign up to our mailing list, or contact us
Automatically: Through cookies and analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Third-party services:
Typeform: Used to collect story and volunteer submissions. Data submitted through Typeform is stored on Typeform's servers in the EU. You can view Typeform's privacy policy at typeform.com/help/a/typeform-gdpr-360029295552
MailChimp: Used to manage email newsletters. Data is stored in the US; MailChimp is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework
Squarespace: Website hosting, web forms, and design
Google Fonts: For typography, loaded through Squarespace
5. Why we collect your data
We use your data to:
- Send you updates and campaign news (with your consent)
- Analyse how people use the site so we can improve it
- Respond to questions or submissions
- Run and evaluate the campaign
5a. Special category data
Some of the information people share through our volunteer and story submission forms may include health-related details, such as a lung cancer diagnosis, symptoms, or experience of medical care. Under GDPR, this is classified as special category data and requires a higher level of protection.
We collect this data only where:
You have given explicit consent through the submission form
The processing is necessary for the purposes of the campaign, which is a legitimate public awareness activity
We limit access to this data to the Lung Cancer Europe team members directly involved in the campaign. We do not share it with third parties without your separate, specific consent. We will contact you before any content featuring your personal health experience is published, and you can withdraw your consent at any time before publication.
6. Legal basis for processing
We process personal data based on:
- Your consent (e.g. signing up to receive emails)
- Our legitimate interest in running and improving a public awareness campaign
- Our legal obligations under Swiss and EU data protection law
7. Where your data is stored
- Most data is stored on servers located in Switzerland or the EU.
- Email subscription data is stored by MailChimp in the US. MailChimp is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
- Usage data is processed by Google Analytics (GA4) and stored by Google.
- Website content (including forms and Google Fonts) is hosted by Squarespace on secure servers.
8. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies to:
- Understand how you use the site
- Improve your browsing experience
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. You may also opt out of Google Analytics tracking using a browser plugin.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access and correct your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Ask us to delete your data

10. Data retention
- If you sign up to our newsletter, we keep your data until you unsubscribe.
- If you submit a campaign form, we keep the data only for as long as necessary to run the campaign.
- Website analytics data is retained according to Google’s default retention settings.
11. Children
This site is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy. If we do, we’ll revise the “Effective Date” at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
